the beauty bar

The rock ’n roll salon themed bar chain Beauty Bar served their first cocktail at their New York location in the Spring of 1995. Word spread and the bar that was quickly becoming famous for serving up “martinis and manicures”, expanded to other U.S. cities. As new bars opened, the website stayed the same, until it became apparent that The Beauty Bar needed a fresh digital look.

The challenge was to represent the bar’s seven individual locations on one site.
I developed a sleek, modern design with a consistent, overarching color scheme. Bold illustrations were created to represent the fun, sexy, rock ’n roll aesthetic of the bar. Each location had their own page, complete with a unique song list, weekly cocktail recipe, featured photos, and a monthly calendar of events. 

The Beauty Bar’s blog became a photo gallery. Signs were placed at every location, encouraging patrons to post photos with the hashtag #beautybar. As a result, photos of each night's festivities filtered into the blog in real time.
